Sat 18th Sep 2010: Conference on Saturday, September 18th, 2010-Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 10.00 am. We are delighted to be taking autumn conference 2010 to Liverpool, a city which has thrived since earning its European Capital of Culture title in 2008.Conference will open on Saturday 18 September with consultative sessions at 10.00 and the formal opening of conference at 14.20. On Wednesday 22 September, conference will close with the Leader's speech at approximately 15.00.Policy issues under discussion at this conference will include a full debate on papers on Localism, International Development and Youth Justice and consultation sessions on Quality of Life, Volunteering and the Voluntary Sector & Facing the Future. Thu 30th Sep 2010: University of Derby - Buxton Campus - Freshers' Fair. Campaigning session on Thursday, September 30th, 2010 at 10.00 am. High Peak Liberal Democrats have this year booked a stand at University of Derby - Buxton Campus - Freshers' Fair on Thursday 30th September from 10am to 4pm at the Dome, Devonshire Street, Buxton.This is an excellent opportunity to meet over a 1000 new voters in advance of the Local Elections and referendum in May.We will be helped by the Electoral Reform Society who will be promoting "Yes to Fairer Votes" and will also be promoting the work of our Liberal Democrat MEP - Bill Newton Dunn.We will be conducting a survey with a prize draw and handing out "Goodie Bags" Wed 6th Oct 2010: Winning campaigns now we're in government. Private meeting on Wednesday, October 6th, 2010 at 7.00 pm. During the election campaign, one of our friends recruited a sprightly new party member - who was well into her nineties. But even she is too young to remember the last time there were Liberals in government outside of wartime. So it's no surprise that many activists are unsure how to copewith the practicalities of our party being in government in Westminster.Being in government offers great opportunities to turn our complaints and our campaigns into actual change.Ed Maxfield who was second on the party's Euro list in the East Midlands in 2009, has been an active campaigner for over twenty years and is at present Senior Public Affairs Officer at Universities UK will describe how we might adapt our campaigning techniques to being in government (by using experience from NGO campaigning and lobbying) at a work shop and training session which will be held on Wednesday 6th October at New Mills Cricket Club, Church Road, New Mills, SK22 4NJThis should be a very useful meeting in the run up to the Referendum and Local Elections to which all members are invited.The meeting will start with an informal buffet - only £2.00 at 7.00pm follwed by the talk and discussion at 7.45pm.Tickets (£2.00) on the door but we would be grateful if you could let me know if you are coming to the buffet so that we can arrange catering.Shirley HoltMembership Development Officer High Peak Liberal DemocratsThe Barn, High Street, Stoney Middleton Hope Valley S32 4TL 01433 631051,07740 919912 membership@highpeaklibdems.org.uk Thu 14th Oct 2010: Social event on Thursday, October 14th, 2010 at 7.30 pm. Public Meeting on Saturday, October 16th, 2010 at 1.00 pm. Every year, we have three mini-conferences that bring together party members from all over the city. We have debates, invited speakers and usually provide a light lunch.Check back closer to the time for more details. Our October meeting is also our AGM, at which we elect our officers and conference representatives for the following year. Sherwood Methodist Church is opposite the Chestnut Trees pub on the corner of Mansfield Road (A60) and Devon Drive. Sat 30th Oct 2010: East Midlands Autumn Regional Conference and AGM. Conference on Saturday, October 30th, 2010 at 9.30 am. The Autumn Regional Conference is booked in the Ashfield area in north Notts, and will be at the Festival Hall in Kirkby in Ashfield on 30th October. This meeting will also be the Annual General Meeting of the East Midlands Liberal Democrats.
